Just ahead of its awaited debut, a variety of spy photos have surfaced. The fuel efficient, compact Equinox has predominantly been unaltered since its redesign that occurred in the 2009 model year. This vehicle has been one of the top selling vehicles for Chevrolet, with approximately 250,000 units sold in the previous year alone. The 2016 model year update is said to bring forth largely cosmetic.

2016 Chevy Equinox Engine Specs

According to industry insiders, the power train options for the vehicle will remain the current duo of options. The first consists of an I-4 2.4 liter unit that is able to deliver 182 horsepower; while the second is a V-6 3.6 liter unit that produces 301 horsepower. Both engine options are available with the option of all wheel drive. It has been reported that the transmission for the Equinox will receive a set of updates itself, but the automaker has yet to disclose any information regarding it. Many insiders wish that the eight speed transmission unit would be further along in development so that it could be mated with the engine options.

It has been reported that the vehicle is able to achieve speeds of 60 mph within a mere 8.5 seconds. It is also able to hit a maximum speed of an estimated 130mph. The front apron of the vehicle has received some hefty updates and virtually none of the lines from the outgoing model coincide with those discovered in the leaked photos. The new fenders also lend the vehicle a dramatic, yet intriguing flare.

The redesigned 2016 Chevy Equinox will enter the automotive market against hefty completion that is provided by the Mazda CX-5 and the Ford Escape. The exterior is said to be presented with a typical set of mid cycle updates that include the following:

The vehicle will officially make its debut at the auto show on Thursday, February 12, 2015 along with an official press release from the manufacturer. This refreshed offering from Chevy is fresh off a stellar sales year for the Equinox. Approximately 20,000 units were sold within the United States.

Additional and more detailed information regarding every aspect of the vehicle, including the manufacturers suggested retail price. Currently, industry insiders estimate that the redesigned Equinox with has a base price of $24,520. This estimated price is relatively close to that of the outgoing model, therefore it is safe to assume that it may be $50 to $1,000 more than the original estimate. The 2016 Chevy Equinox is slated to make its debut at this week’s Chicago Auto Show.
